Bear X Constrictor CDX Crossbow Review

Our first impression in our review of the Bear X Constrictor CDX crossbow was how compact and narrow it is for a standard limb set-up.

At only 10″ wide at full draw and 14″ wide uncocked it is one slender beast!

It’s slender but with a lot of muscle for hunting large animals or target shooting at the range or in the back yard.

BearX Constrictor CDX Review Features:

With its narrow dimensions and blazing speeds, this is looking to be one of the best crossbows for tight performance on a budget.

The Bear Constrictor CDX has some excellent features such as the dual-mount string recoil suppressor system that helps one to remain stealthy by reducing noise and vibration.

String and cable slap is one of the achilles heels of compound crossbows. Having dual string dampeners as stock on the CDX is a great feature.

The Constrictor CDX incorporates an anti-drying fire mechanism that helps prevent accidental discharge. This is a crucial safety feature on this xbow and any other design touting speeds over the 400 FPS mark.

Dry firing a crossbow with such intense limb and cam torque would be a very bad move and could lead to accidental injury of the shooter or any bystanders.

One can purchase the xbow alone or as a ready-to-hunt package that includes 3 Bear X TrueX bolts, an illuminated scope, 4-arrow quiver, cocking rope, and rail lube/string wax.

The bear constrictor CDX crossbow has hard-hitting high-powered performance for its compact size, allowing you to be ready for hunting or shooting for fun right out of the box.

The crossbow also comes in 2 unique camo patterns: TrueTimber Strata and Veil Stroke.

Both patterns feature a nice mix of grey, green, brown and olive drab colors that blend in well to practically any hunting terrain.

A flexible guard rail provides finger and thumb protection and an angled, and oversized trigger guard makes it easy to find the trigger even when wearing gloves.

Protective guard rails placed over the fore-arm grip has become standard issue for most modern crossbows. The double sided guard rail on the Constrictor is a nice size. It’s large enough to prevent the shooters thumb or fingers from entering the path of the string, yet  it’s not overly large and awkward.

The forearm grip is adjustable via allen screws on the sliding polymer front rail. The polymer stock butt also adjusts in familar AR slide and click fasion to lengthen or shorten the stock to fit the shooters arm length and shooting style.

The stock scope is illuminated which is a nice touch. Stock optics on most crossbows are usually nothing to write home about and we usually recommend buying a top-rated crossbow scope for better results, especially in low light conditions.

We give the Bear Constrictor CDX crossbow high grades for a standard format design that is exceptionally good for tight quarters. Its 10 inch and 14-inch-wide diameter when cocked and uncocked respectively allow for a greater room for mobility.

It’s a great option for hunting in small blinds or up in box blinds where space can be at a minimum.

The MFG’s listed FPS of 410 actually seems acccurate, which is refreshing since most manufacturers tend to inflate these figures.

For hunters looking for a quiet, stealthy crossbow with good mobility this is a great choice. We like the engineering and design of this xbow. It appears to be built well and with durability in mind.
